MLK, Dayton, Inc. Announces its Board Members
and major King Day activities for 2014 in a Press Conference

Editors: This announcement focuses on major King Day activities for 2014 and the announcement of the MLK, Dayton Inc. Board Members. Links to additional information can be found on the website.

DAYTON, OHIO--MLK, Dayton, Inc. will announce its official Board Members along with plans for the King Day Activities for 2014. On Tuesday, November 12, 2013 the Board Members more than three years in the making will be ceremonially unveiled in a dedication chaired by Rev. Junior Greenlee at 10:30 A.M. at the Ahiska Turkish American Community Center (Across from Stivers School for the arts), 1306 E. Fifth Street.

The MLK, Dayton Inc. King Day Celebration 2014 concludes a weekend of pre-dedication activities including the emancipation proclamation, the interfaith prayer breakfast, worship service, MLK School Program, MLK Musical Concert, MLK March & Rally, and the MLK Celebration Banquet. MLK, Dayton Inc. is said to be among the most diverse and proactive organizations in the greater Dayton area. Community involvement and media coverage helped to make this years events a success. We were very happy to have been a partner in several events this year along with the King Day Celebration activities.

The community urban violence initiative in April, and the 50th Anniversary "I have a dream speech" for the Celebrate Peace event. There were several students from Taught Youth at Stivers School for the Arts, Mound Academy & Stebbins High School who did a tremendous job in delivering the King speeches. These are all a part of the year round MLK Celebration activities.

"We're deeply grateful to our very dedicated and diverse Board Members & Staff along with our great sponsors for helping to build a lasting memorial to honor Dr. King and his principles here in our city", said Mr. Anthony B. Whitmore, MLK, Dayton Inc., President.

In past years several charitable organizations have been the recipients of donations from MLK, Dayton, Inc. including: Central State University(Upward Bound Program), Jewish Federation of Greater Dayton, House of Bread, East Dayton food pantry, South minster Presbyterian Church, Corinthian Baptist Church, and Project Cure.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's Birthday is a day of honor and commemorative events at a variety of sites in the Dayton and Miami Valley Area. Martin Luther King Jr's Birthday is January 15th and is celebrated each year on the third Monday in January. In 1994, to further commemorate a man who lived his life in service to others, Congress transformed the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday into a national day of community service.
